YOU Be the Judge
On Monday, February 7, 2011 nearly 250 homeschool teenagers, 250 parents and siblings, and 800 judges will gather at Tommy Thompson Center, State Fair Park, West Allis, Wisconsin, for an exciting three day speech and debate tournament. Sponsored by the National Christian Forensics and Communication Association (NCFCA), the Wisconsin tournament is one of five 2011 competitions in which homeschool teens from Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, and Indiana qualify for the regional and national championships. Students compete in ten different speech events and two styles of debate events.
Because the league trains teenagers to communicate with people from all walks of life, we need judges from the community who may or may not have any experience judging speech or debate. Although we also use NCFCA alumni and parents to judge, we depend on the community judge to evaluate the students from a fresh, “every-man” perspective.
No Experience Is Required
Because the NCFCA is the third largest speech and debate league in the country and has such great student participation, we are faced with the monumental task of finding over 800 judges to evaluate our competitors. We need you! While you are with us, we will teach you exactly how to judge competitive speech and debate, feed you delicious refreshments in the judge’s hospitality room, and inspire you with the amazing depth and skill of our homeschool teenagers! Your time commitment will be anywhere from two and half to three hours.
State Fair Park is located at 640 S. 84th Street in West Allis. Please follow the judge parking signs to the Tommy Thompson Center where you will be greeted and informed where you need to go from there.
