Press Release: Community Players Announces Open Auditions
RICHLAND CENTER, WI. The Community Players of Southwestern Wisconsin, Inc., in partnership with the Richland School District Foundation, Inc., announces an open audition call for its summer 2011 musical production of “Annie” the popular 1977 Broadway classic by Charles Strouse, Martin Charnin, and Thomas Meehan from May 26 – 28, 2011. Auditions will be held at the Richland Center downtown city auditorium, 182 North Central Avenue. Production dates are scheduled from July 29 – 31 and August 4 – 6, 2011.
Community Players, since its premiere production of “Godspell” in 2000, is dedicated to stage musical and other dramatic productions designed to “educate members of the cast, crew, and audiences to the educational and literary resources of Southwestern Wisconsin.” From its 2010 season of the very successful “Peter Pan: The Musical” and “A Christmas Survival Guide,” Community Players is pleased to present as its seventeenth production Tony Award winner “Annie” directed by Susan Calnin, assistant directed by Destiny Shannon, and co-produced by Cheryl Crook and Paul Murphey.
“Annie,” based upon the popular Harold Gray comic strip “Little Orphan Annie,” which ran in newspaper syndication from 1924 – 2010, brings to life on stage the story of the spunky, Depression-era orphan who is determined to find the parents who abandoned her on the doorstep of a New York City Orphanage when she was a baby. The irrepressible Annie dreams about her future with a real family and manages to keep not only her own spirits up but also cheers up all the other orphans who are forced to live under the care of the cruel, embittered Miss Hannigan. In adventure after adventure, Annie foils Miss Hannigan’s evil machinations, meets President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and finds a new family and home with billionaire Oliver Warbucks, his secretary Grace Farrell, and a lovable mutt named Sandy.
Auditions will be held at the Richland Center downtown city auditorium on Thursday, May 26 and Friday, May 27 with children auditioning from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., and adults auditioning from 7:30 – 9:30 p.m. each night. The required age for children to audition is eight. No exceptions will be made. Auditioners with pet allergies should note that this show will use live animals (dogs). Callbacks will be held from 10 a.m. – 12 noon on Saturday, May 28, 2011. An accompanist will be provided, and adults and children will learn a song/dance from the show and read from the script. In addition to leading and supporting roles for males, females, and children, additional extra casting will result in an estimated total “Annie” cast of 50. A DVD and CD of “Annie” are on reserve at the Richland Center Brewer Library for potential participants to view.
