Singing, … alone in your car, … in the shower, … to a tune stuck in your head that only you can hear.

Growing up in my family meant singing.
Singing in church.
Singing in school choral concerts.
Singing along with the radio.

In the late 1960’s and 1970’s, pop music on the radio seemed to be everywhere. During family gatherings, it was quite common for my Uncle Robert to start humming, my Mother pick up the tune with vocals, and Grams would harmonize.  “American Bandstand” it was not.  More like a family version of “Name That Tune.”

But the main reason I was taught to sing was for the glory of God.  Musical expression reflects the order, design and glory of our Creator.”

To this day, my mother’s best voice comes out during church services.  Her beautiful coloratura soprano was frequently requested for many weddings and special occasions.  Just thinking about her rendition of Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria” brings a smile to my face even now.

Music is a language we all know and understand. And children naturally love to sing….

The Gloria Home-School Choir is a newly-forming organization of home-schooled singers ranging in age from 9 years and up. Our purpose is to glorify God through skillful and artistic music presentations while teaching our students the art of proper singing and musicianship. The director will be Dennis Baldridge; accompanist, Jane Baldridge.

Our repertoire will be a selection of classical, sacred, patriotic and folk songs performed in a manner that reflects the order, design and glory of our Creator. Future performance opportunities may include a variety of venues such as retirement homes, community events, and participation in the radio station WCNP concert series.

Dennis and Jane Baldridge are homeschool parents as well as outstanding music teachers and performers; and recognized in the field of choral music and piano.  You can read more about their qualifications here.

September 6th, is the deadline for submitting an application for the Gloria Home-School Choir.  This is a wonderful opportunity for our young people which has never been available in this area before—-don’t miss it!

Special Note:  If you are considering joining the GLORIA CHOIR, but not sure if you meet the “music reading” requirement, you’re not alone.  Talking recently with some of the moms, we realized that they were hesitant to reply on that account.  Please contact us if you are at all interested in the choir.  Even a general acquaintance with the music notation system will be acceptable (e.g. singing from a hymnal at church or at home).  We look forward to hearing from you.
