The 11th Annual Dam Challenge will be held on Saturday, October 5th, 2013.
*** 10/4/13 With a shared sense of sadness, we have to announce that the 11th Annual Dam Challenge is cancelled due to the weather. Safety of our racers, volunteers, and staff is paramount and in a remote setting we simply cannot take the risk. Thanks so much for all your support, hope to have you back next year! Jonel Kiesau, Education Coordinator, Kickapoo Valley Reserve ***
The Kickapoo Reserve Dam Challenge Triathlon challenges participants to compete among the rugged hills of scenic southwestern Wisconsin’s rural countryside and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Kickapoo Valley Reserve Education Program.
Participants Canoe 7 miles down the winding Kickapoo River along rock out-croppings and through diverse vegetation;
Road Bike 14 miles through the scenic rural landscape with steep climbs and rapid descents;
and Trail Run 3 miles to a winding, wooded trail that leads down a deteriorating road bed.
Registration is nearly full — but they could use volunteer help for set up and cleanup, and to help direct participants during the race (at the river put-in or take-out, bike route, run route, and main transition area).
The event is a major fundraiser for the Education and Events Program of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. Many of us (especially homeschoolers!) have been able to take part in the great educational programs offered by KVR as a result of special events like this.
As of today, the race is already almost full with 490 participants (they cap it at 500). Add to that number, participant families and other spectators plus over 100 volunteers and it makes for a big race with lots of people and jobs to do.
As a volunteer you will receive a race day t-shirt, some free refreshments during the day, and many compliments from all the thankful racers and KVR staff!
