What qualifies for a student’s free admission during A Days?

Any A will do!

Show up on the designated days with an official student report card or transcript.

The document must show at least one A grade or the equivalent of an A grade from the most recent 2017 version that they can obtain.

Homeschoolers need to have a “bona fide” report card or transcript showing a grade equivalent to an A. Many parents have used forms found on websites like Donna Young or forms that they use for their record-keeping. What is important is that the document is real and unaltered; it cannot be copied or transferred to another individual or hand-created by the student.

You are only permitted to attend once on the A Days promotion. The report card acts as the admission ticket, so it is valid for one use only. To prevent multiple uses or device transfer, they need to stamp the actual paper report card or printed screenshot with name. Students get in free when presenting their most recent report card featuring any A in any subject!

You must follow the dress code and other rules of the park. No outside food or beverages are allowed inside the park.

Noah’s Ark has over 250 trained and licensed Lifeguards stationed throughout the park to help you have a safe day. They even help you get on rides and provide “splashdown” assistance. Life jackets are available at the wave pools at no charge and are required in the wave pools for those under 48 inches tall.

Parents and relatives will have to pay regular admission in order to enter the park. Admission for the 2017 season is $38.99 Monday through Friday and $41.99 Saturdays and Sundays. admission applies for all guests 48 inches and taller. (There is no discount for those who will not be getting wet.)

Special admission days in 2017 include Grandparents Days (June 10th – 18th) and Fathers Day (June 18th).

Summer is upon us…

Two quick things that you should know, now that school is out for the summer:

Report Card Days at Noah’s Ark Waterpark *Click here for the UPDATE for JUNE 2017*

As always, I suggest that you check with the park  before heading out. There may be more details that you’ll want to know.

Secondly, just a friendly reminder to watch your children closely. Water is a powerful force and drowning doesn’t look like you think it should.

Be safe and have fun!

Reading Incentive Programs UPDATE: Kwik, Wet, and Wild

I get a lot of questions about Reading Incentives for homeschoolers in Wisconsin, so here’s the current news on KWIK BOOKS and NOAH’S ARK DIVE INTO READING and Six Flags READ TO SUCCEED!!!

In Wisconsin, “Quick” is spelled “Kwik”…

Kwik Trip, Incorporated sponsors a Student Reading Incentive Program called “Kwik Books” for preschool through 6th grade students.  Homeschooled students are eligible to participate in the Kwik Books Program through our Southwest Wisconsin Homeschool Group Enrollment. Each child meeting the  monthly reading goal is rewarded – by the homeschool parent/teacher, with a certificate for a FREE slice of Cheese Mountain Pizza, available at any Kwik Trip or Kwik Star store.  The reading goal for our group enrollment is for each child to read (or be read to) a minimum of two extra hours (i.e., not part of daily schoolwork) during the month. The program runs from September 2012 through May 2013.  You may sign-up at any time during the year.
** Sign-up for the 2013-14 School Year.**

Here’s what you need to do to participate in Kwik Books as a homeschooler through the Southwest Wisconsin Homeschool Group Enrollment:
1) Send an email to swischomeschools@gmail.com — Specify the months in which you will participate in the program and include the names and ages/grades of your child(ren) participating in the program, your contact information (address/phone), and your homeschool group (if any).
2) You will receive a confirmation email with further instructions.
3) You will need to mail a stamped self-addressed business-size envelope – one for each child participating. Your certificates will be mailed back to you as soon as possible in the envelopes that you provide.
Smile and say yay, pizza for reading!

In Wisconsin, we have the Dells — a.k.a., the Water Park Capital of the World — and we have the country’s largest outdoor waterpark, Noah’s Ark…

** Noah’s Ark Waterpark discontinued their reading incentive program in 2012.**

Noah’s Ark Water Park in Wisconsin Dells has been sponsoring their annual Dive Into Reading Program for grades K – 6  for quite a few years.

For 2012-13 we’ve been told that Noah’s Ark Waterpark is in the process of developing a new Student Rewards Program to take the place of Dive Into Reading.  Officially all they’ve stated is that “it will be a different sort of program” and they will release any details in mid-October 2012.

As long as you’re here, why not sign up for updates? Look for the link near the top right-hand side of this page to sign up. Then you’ll know what I know, when I know it!

As of 10/27/12, we are still waiting for information from the Noah’s Ark Reading Program Coordinator as to the details for this year. They’ve said it will be completely NEW!  Stay tuned for more information on registration in Southwest Wisconsin Homeschool Group Enrollment in the new Noah’s Ark Waterpark Student Reading Rewards Program.

UPDATE November 20, 2012:

In order to reduce the administrative burden for both teachers and park staff, Noah’s Ark will continue to support scholarships in our schools with our very popular “a Days” while eliminating the reading program.

The “A Days” program admits any student with an “A” (or highest grade available on their report card) for free on one of the designated “A Days!”   “A Days dates from the 2013 season will be determined and released on June 1st.   Please call our office at 608-254-6351 on June 1st or after to obtain the dates.

Thank you for your participation and we hope to see you this summer.

Sincerely,
Noah’s Ark

Not much else I can say about that, except major disappointment, huh?
Oh well, at least they will still have “A” Days.  (And there’s a water park option at Six Flags!!!)

In south Wisconsin, we are near Six Flags Great America, north of Chicago in Gurnee Illinois…

Here’s the latest on Six Flags Read To Succeed

Every year Six Flags Theme Parks offers an exciting opportunity for your K-6th grade children to earn free theme park pass for reading.

Go to Six Flags Read to Succeed. Create a new account for your family. Choose the homeschool option and tell them how many children you’re homeschooling, which grades, etc. Not only will your homeschool children receive a free theme park pass, but one homeschool parent/teacher receives a free pass as well!  You’ll find when you register that there are several Six Flag locations across the country. After you register you’ll receive emails from Read to Succeed with further information on how to complete the program and turn in reading information. :)

Click the Reading Incentive Program page here, for the complete run-down on these and other free programs.

Drowning: What You May Not Know

have-you-heard-of-delayed-drowning-pa
Having small children, it has always been a comfort to me to see lifeguards posted around at waterparks, pools, and beaches.  Drowning is quick and silent.  It can happen in less than a minute.  And a mother only has two eyes. (No matter what my kids think about that other pair of eyes in the back of my head.)

Read some scary statistics on unintentional drowning

Learn to see the signs of distress in the water. Educate yourself and your children.

Let’s give a big shout-out THANK YOU to the lifeguards!

True Story.

Yesterday, we got a chance to see a lifeguard in action at Noah’s Ark Waterpark in Wisconsin Dells:

During one of the wave cycles at The Big Kahuna,

a young girl went under the water surface…

Super quick, a life guard jumped in…

He retrieved the girl from underneath the water and brought her up.

As soon as her mouth was out of the water, she was absolutely fine and was able to walk out of the wave pool on her own.

Way to go, Noah’s Ark Waterpark lifeguards!!!

Now, you may think, “hey, it doesn’t sound like she was acting like she was drowning.”  But drowning lurks in any body of water.   This little girl just went under the water for a moment.

Learn the characteristics of the Instinctive Drowning Response.

She wasn’t struggling.  Or thrashing about.

We’ve been conditioned to think drowning is some sort of dramatic thrashing about. As parents watching our children in the water, we assume that we’d obviously notice any trouble (as we occasionally look up from our book) and know that he or she was in danger.

But we’ve been misled.  Television and movies are designed to depict the drama – not the everyday.

When a person begins to drown, the Instinctive Drowning Response kicks in. They aren’t able to cry out, their respiratory system is busy trying to breathe. They aren’t able to wave their arms overhead like you expect.  In fact it may look very much like just playing quietly in the water. Very undramatic. Until the person slowly sinks below the water surface.  (trackback)

In other words, the person is just too busy drowning to let you know that she is drowning.  And so, she doesn’t look like he’s drowning.  She may just seem to be looking up at the sky, shore, pool deck, or dock.  Ask her, “Are you all right?”  If she can answer at all, she probably is.  If not, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to her.   (source)

Watch this video of a trained lifeguard rescue caught on film as Dr. Frank Pia explains the instinctive drowning response.

You cannot relax around kids and water. Drowning can happen in seconds.
It’s quick and it’s quiet and it can happen to your child.

Everyone thinks someone else is watching.

An “A” on Report Card = FREE Wisconsin Dells Waterpark Admission

Noah’s Ark Waterpark “A Days” June 2017 dates are listed here.

Please make sure you call the park before you go. There may be other details you need to know!  (Like rules, hours, upgrades, parking fees…)

– Here’s a reprint of the original post with links and tips:

This time of year, one of the more frequent reasons people wind up here is the search term:  “free Wisconsin waterpark admission with an A on report card.”

There are 2 Wisconsin Waterparks in the busy summer attraction area of Wisconsin Dells, that offer free admission to students who qualify on Report Card Days:  Noah’s Ark Waterpark and Mount Olympus Waterpark

Report Card Days are designated dates when students who have at least one “A”  on their report card can get into the park for free.

This applies to homeschoolers, too!

The dates for Report Card Days vary from year to year but are usually in early to mid June.

You should give them a call to get the selected dates — and other details.
Please take my humble suggestion:
Call the parks before you plan your trip. When we visited Noah’s Ark this year we found many things (hours, rules, rides closed, etc.) were not as stated on their website.  Don’t be disappointed, call the park before you go!

Wisconsin Dells is known as the “Waterpark Capital of the World,” offering more than 20 different indoor and outdoor water parks all surrounded by the scenic natural beauty of Wisconsin.

Scroll down for more…

Noah’s Ark Waterpark bills itself as America’s Largest Waterpark, and if you’ve never been there you are seriously missing out on some fun in Wisconsin Dells.

Personally, I like to give them a nice plug because they sponsored a homeschool-friendly reading incentive program for K-6th graders called Dive Into Reading.

For Noah’s Ark Waterpark Report Card Days, all you need to present is a report card from the 3rd or 4th quarter of the school year with just one A grade on it.  The nice gal at Noah’s Ark told me, basically any A on any current report card will suffice. Kindergartners through College students can get in for free on A Days!

Call the park first. There may be other details you need to know!

If you are a homeschooler, you can use a report card form like the ones found on websites like Donna Young.

Oh, and check this out for some great practical tips on visiting Noah’s Ark Waterpark. Like: “To avoid lines, go in June, on a cooler day or when rain is forecast. Lines also start to dwindle around 4 p.m., and are traditionally shorter on Sundays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Go to the most popular rides when the park first opens, and/or later in the day.” Pack up the kids, take their report cards with an “A” on it, and get them in free.

Yay Summertime!  And warm weather!!

Be safe in and around the water!
There are lifeguards posted at water parks, pools, and beaches for a reason.
Drowning is a silent nightmare.
A lifeguard’s job is to enforce rules, scan, rescue and resuscitate.
Watching your children is your job.Picture of a water watcher card

Ready, Set, Read…
